For some time, I have been an avid pipe tobacco smoker. Typically I would use corncob die to price, the smoke itself, and the availability. During this time I have smoked a lot of tobacco, and some time about 2 years ago 'Cornell and Diehl' introduced "The Old Ones" collection (inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's works) which immediately ticked my fancy to no end. And as it turns out, smokes really, really well. This is a quick list of those tobaccos and how to find them for yourself. I buy my tobaccos in groups of two to alternate in between so this list is not in order of personal recommendation, but just order in which I acquired and smoked them. Typically I would "Rate" a tobacco on how many bowls I would smoke of it a day, 1 being "Alright or Average", 2 being "Good, I like this", and 3 being "This is great, maybe 1 more bowl."
NOTE: While I will be listing a online retailer, I buy all my pipes and tobacco from my local tobacconist. I recommend you do as well if you can.
"Awakened Elder" The first out of the series I smoked. Great English blend, very mild. Average bowls with this was easily a 2 and sometimes on a rainy day, good cup of tea, a 3.
"Mad Fiddler Flake" Second in the series I smoked. This is a strong blend, at least for me. too rich, too dark. I usually kept this is 1 bowl or 0.
"Visions Of Celephais" This is by far might be my favorite, it smokes great, smells like wine and grapes, relaxing to puff on, and a great midnight smoke. I usually had a hard time keeping this one restricted to just 2 bowls a day. Easily a 3 most often
"Innsmouth" Good blend over all, I liked this one but reminded me a bit of some darker smokes, but light enough I kept coming back. I kept this one to about 1 bowl.
"Miskatonic Mixture" This is one I came into knowing I was not going to smoke a lot of. After some experimenting with some other blends during this time, I found I disliked full flavor tobacco and liked more aromatics. I kept this one to 1 bowl or none.
"Dreams Of Kadath" So this is one of my first "Plug" cut tobaccos I have smoked. While I can see the benefit, easier to pack, easier to carry. I will stick with ribbon cut for some time. While this did not turn me off to the tobacco itself. This one is something I can see myself buying again for shelf stock and also to smoke on a winter night. While I may have purchased this in the summer, I am going to keep a small jar for winter. Easily a solid 1 bowl in the summer, 2 in the winter.
