I am a big outdoors enthusiast, but one of my largest issues with camping or doing a lot of outdoor work in the cold or at night is maintaining a fire. The solution however is simple to implement and can maintain a fire for 8+ hours depending on wood type and log size.
You will need to do some prep to build the structure and dig a fire-pit out. But this can all be done in about 30 minutes.
You can start by creating the brace for your structure. Do so by lashing or nailing your 2-foot branches to 2 short logs. One for each side of the structure.
Lash 2 of the long logs to each brace. These will become the ramp which your fuel will sit on and roll down into the fire-pit.
To ensure the structure is stable, bury each brace about 1 foot deep. Add your logs to the ramps. Be sure to space your first two logs in the pit near but not covering your starter kindling, you can do this by placing a smaller log vertically, standing as a wedge between the first logs on the ramp. This will allow for airflow and not to smother the fire as it is starting.
